What is HIFU, and how does it work?

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to heat and tighten skin. The procedure delivers focused ultrasound energy to the deep layers of the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, the fibers that give skin its elasticity and strength. This process causes the skin to lift and tighten, resulting in a more youthful appearance. HIFU is commonly used to treat sagging skin on the face and neck or body and improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

The ultrasound energy targets the layers of skin just below the surface and causes the tissue to heat up rapidly; once the cells in the targeted area reach a certain temperature, the protein collagen is denatured, and as a result, this makes the skin stronger and smoother.

Before and After Focus Area Flanks

What does HIFU feel like?

It feels like small electrical pulses or like a slight pricking sensation; it all depends on the tolerance of your body; if you are very sensitive, we will apply numbing cream in the areas closest to the bones where it is usually more sensitive, Immediately after the treatment, you may experience mild redness or swelling, which will gradually recede over the next few hours.

HIFU procedure

You should have completely clean and bare skin, no creams, lotions, perfumes, oils, or makeup.

  • Our technician first cleans the target area

  • A technician may apply a topical numbing cream or spray before starting the session if you are too sensitive.

  • Or technician then applies an ultrasound gel.

  • The HIFU device is placed against the skin.

  • Then, the ultrasound energy is sent to the target area in short pulses for approximately 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area of your body to work; in this process, the technician can change the capacity of the transducers as your skin begins to change elasticity and the appearance, to achieve the best results.

  • The technician will remove the gel and apply a moisturizing cream to nourish the skin after the procedure.

If additional treatments are needed, you will schedule the next treatment.

You can go home and resume your normal daily activities immediately after the procedure.

What to expect after the session?

By not requiring rest or recovery time, you can return to your normal activities; some people may experience mild pain for a few days or bruising.

You can start to see changes in the skin 30, 60, and 90 days after the treatment; remember that the change in the outer layer of the skin epidermis lacks blood flow and is nourished by the lower layers of the skin. Therefore, the growth and renewal of your skin will take at least 48 days to complete the total change in its appearance.

After your HIFU treatment, you will see some slight plumping, but the best results will come after 2 - 3 months. Your skin will continue to regenerate collagen for the next 6 months after the initial treatment.

Who can get HIFU?

HIFU is for everyone concerned about aging or tired skin; generally, the procedure works best for people over 30 with mild to moderate skin laxity. People with photo-damaged skin or a high degree of sagging skin may need several treatments before seeing results.

People over 70 with more extensive photo-aging, severe skin laxity, or very loose skin on the neck are not good candidates and may need surgery.

HIFU is not recommended for people with infections, open skin lesions in the target area, severe or cystic acne, or metal implants in the treatment area.

Is HIFU a short or long-Term-Effect treatment?

The improvement in appearance persisted for at least six months. You will likely need additional HIFU treatments once the natural aging process takes over, generally in one to two years, as the natural aging process takes over.

If this is the first time you try this technology, we recommend that during the first year you have two or three sessions, and then during the second year you can do (1) one session to maintain the results of the treatment.

You may need a few additional treatments after the first treatment for trickier areas.

The immediate effects of your treatment will continue to develop over time, and many patients continue to experience a more contoured look up to 12 months post-treatment.

HIFU Aftercare:
